Bella Thorne scrapped debut album
Actress/singer Bella Thorne dumped her debut album last year (14) amid fears her vocals were not good enough.
The Blended actress released a number of singles while she starred in Disney Channel series Shake It Up! between 2010 and 2013 and she was due to release her first full album last year (14).
However, the disc never came out because Thorne was not happy with
her voice on most of the songs and she was not allowed to re-record
her vocals, so she subsequently released a five-track EP called
Jersey instead.
She tells WENN, "The reason why the album did not come out is
because... look, I never wanted to really be an amazing singer.
Honestly, I was tone deaf when I first got on the (Disney) Channel.
I literally auditioned for Shake It Up! and I was like, 'I don't
sing and I don't dance. I have no idea why I'm here'. Then Disney,
we started this whole singing process and I signed this contract
with Hollywood Records and I told them I wouldn't put out my album
until my voice was good, until I worked on it, because there's no
way I'm putting out... auto-tuned bad music. My father always told
me, if you're going to do something, you better not do it
half-a**ed. You have to be the best at what you do.
"And so it took a while for my album to come out because my voice
was not good enough when I was on the show and I was like, 'There's
no way I'm putting it out yet' so it ended up coming out later and
by the time that I was off the show, my voice from the songs I had
already done, I was so much younger, these songs they're like two
years old. I asked if I could re-record them and they were like,
'No cos (sic) we don't have the budget for that' and so I ended up
cutting eight/nine songs from the album and turned it into an
EP..."
Thorne has no current plans to continue her music career.
