Ashley Roberts enjoys Thanksgiving meal in reality show jungle
Former Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts celebrated Thanksgiving in a remote Australian jungle as she continues her stint in British reality TV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.
The singer enjoyed a meaty feast, cold beers, and a massage from ex-heavyweight boxing champion David Haye as she marked the holiday on Thursday (22Nov12).
She was even allowed an emotional three-minute phone call to her
mother back home in the States after begging her fellow campmates
for permission to speak to her family.
Roberts has been camping in an Aussie rainforest for two weeks as a
contestant on the survival show, in which stars face their fears in
stomach-churning 'trials' to earn meals for their camp.
In her challenge on Thursday she won a feast for her pals by
confronting rats, snakes, cockroaches and a pool of fish guts, and
when their evening meal arrived, Roberts was delighted to discover
the show's producers had made an effort to help their American
contestant celebrate the big day.
Roberts told viewers, "We have a jungle Thanksgiving dinner!
Muttonbird, spatchcock, and lychees and cherries for dessert...
Thanksgiving dinner in the jungle, what about that!... And yeah! We
got to wash it down with a nice cold one."
She then paraded around the camp waving a Stars and Stripes flag
while her fellow contestants sang the national anthem.
Roberts later choked back tears as she told viewers of her joy at
being allowed to speak to her mother on the phone, saying, "I'm
really grateful and thankful that everyone was OK with that and I
got to talk to my mom. I get emotional. I just try to be as tough
as I can but it's definitely hard."
