Angelina Jolie meets with refugees in Ecuador
Angelina Jolie turned her family vacation to Ecuador into a work trip over the weekend (21-22Apr12) after meeting with refugees in her role as a representative for the United Nations.
The Salt star and her new fiance Brad Pitt celebrated the announcement of their engagement by taking their six children to South America to visit the Galapagos Islands last Tuesday (17Apr12).
But Jolie took some time out of the holiday to resume her
humanitarian work as a Special Envoy for the United Nations High
Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and she headed to Ecuador's San
Miguel River, along the border of Colombia, to speak to refugees
who had been displaced by violence in the neighbouring country.
The actress also headed to the capital city of Quinto to meet with
Ecuador's Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patino, to discuss the refugee
situation.
Jolie served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for more than 10 years
before being promoted to her new role as a representative for the
organisation in an official capacity.
