Angelina Jolie brings daughter on humanitarian trip
Angelina Jolie brought her daughter Shiloh on her humanitarian visit to Lebanon and Turkey this week (ends21Jun15).
The nine year old, Jolie's first biological child with Brad Pitt, accompanied her mother as she visited refugee camps as part of her role as a special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
They stopped in Lebanon on Friday (19Jun15) so Shiloh could meet a
12-year-old Syrian orphan named Hala, who first met Jolie in
2014.
Jolie tells People.com, "Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee
families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and
meet them for many years... Upon leaving the family, Shiloh asked
many questions... It is of course hard to explain all of the harsh
realities of war and displacement. She said she felt sad, but was
happy that she went and is looking forward to the next visit.
"It was wonderful that they were able to meet, play together, and
make friends. So many refugees are children. I've often heard them
say that the most painful thing is not that they have lost their
homes - it is that they have lost their friends."
On Saturday (20Jun15), World Refugee Day, they headed to Turkey to
visit a Syrian and Iraqi refugee camp with UNHCR High Commissioner
Antonio Guterres. Jolie also met Turkish President Recep Tayyip
Erdogan to discuss the refugee crisis.
Jolie has six children with husband Pitt - three adopted and three
biological.
