Aaron Carter: 'I want to be Wicked'
Pop star Aaron Carter is hoping to return to the New York stage and take on the role he had to turn down to tour.
The singer and reality TV star, who won critical acclaim for his turn in off-Broadway production The Fantasticks, has his sights set on a starring role in longrunning musical Wicked.
He tells WENN, "I'd like to play Fiyero in Wicked. Put that out
there so they can make me an offer. The character is great, it's a
challenging role.
"They (producers) were enquiring about me doing the part in the
past but I was going on tour after The Fantasticks and couldn't do
it."
Fiyero is the prince of the Arjiki tribe in the Vinkus, who falls
in love with Wicked witch Elphaba. Elphaba saves his life by
casting a protection spell that inadvertently changes him into The
Wizard of Oz's Scarecrow character.
Norbert Leo Butz created the character for the original Broadway
production of the musical, and he has been played by Taye Diggs,
Joey McIntyre, Adam Garcia and American Idol stars Justin Guarini
and Adam Lambert, among others.
Carter's Broadway dreams will have to wait a while - the singer has
just embarked on an 80-date tour of North America and Europe.
