Neneh Cherry's daughter up for MTV Brand New prize
Neneh Cherry's daughter Mabel is among nominees for the 2018 edition of Mtv's prestigious Brand New prize.
Each year bosses at the TV network team up with industry experts to draw up a shortlist of the musicians they believe are on the cusp of making it big, with fans then voting for the winner.
Mabel, Cherry's daughter with Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey is named on the 2018 shortlist, giving her the chance to follow in the footsteps of past victors Justin Bieber, The Vamps, Anne-Marie and Conor Maynard.
In a press release revealing the 2018 nominees the 21-year-old said, "I'm so excited to be in the top ten for MTVs Brand New for 2018! There's always such an amazing list of nominees and to be a part of it this year is a dream come true!"
Her nomination comes after her track Finders Keepers made the top ten of the U.K. singles chart earlier this year (17).
Also named on the shortlist are Colombian-Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez, indie rockers Bad Sounds, electronica musician Elderbrook, British rap duo Lotto Boyzz, and London MC Yxng Bane.
On his nomination Bane said, "It's an absolute pleasure to be recognized as one of MTV's Brand New 2018 acts. I'm so excited to be on this year's list because it's another reminder that people want to hear more music from me!"
Goth rockers Pale Waves, singer-songwriter Tom Walker, Norwegian songstress Sigrid and another London rapper, Not3s round out the nominees.
From January (18) fans can vote for their favorite on Instagram, with the latest Brand New champion revealed in the new year.
Past nominees also include Adele, Lana Del Rey, and Lady Gaga.
