Gwen Stefani on marriage split: 'My life blew up in my face'
Gwen Stefani is "just trying to have fun" following the breakdown of her marriage to Gavin Rossdale, admitting life "blew up in my face".
The Hella Good singer dropped the divorce bombshell in August (15), announcing her near 13-year marriage to Bush frontman Gavin was over.
She subsequently poured her heart out in the lyrics and tearful
video for her new single, Used to Love You, in which she sings
about a love split, and she recently told breakfast show Today it
was a "very real" reflection of her emotional state.
The mother-of-three has now revealed she didn't even want to head
into the studio on the day she wrote the track because she was so
heartbroken.
"On the way into the studio the first time, I didn't want to go,"
she tells radio host and The Voice presenter Carson Daly. "I wanted
to be in my bed, like, crying. And I did, I cried all the way down
to Santa Monica (in California), driving to Santa Monica, and I was
like, 'What am I doing? Why am I doing this?'"
She eventually put pen to paper to describe her troubles in song,
and once her creative juices started flowing, she couldn't
stop.
"That feeling of being able to write again, that's everything to
me," she says. "My value on myself is by songwriting... I think
within eight weeks I had 19 songs... I was like, 'Listen all I
wanna do is I just want to say the truth. I just want the truth to
come out. I just want to be honest and real'."
In addition to her music, Gwen has also turned to partying to
relieve her stress and she was spotted attending George Clooney's
Halloween bash in Los Angeles on Friday (30Oct15) with her The
Voice co-hosts Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
The 46 year old admits her life has completely changed since
parting ways with Gavin, but she has decided to embrace her new
single status and just enjoy herself while she can.
"My life is so extreme right now," the singer continues. "My life
basically blew up in my face. And now I'm in this new life, and
it's pretty awesome I have to say - I'm so inspired being back on
the show (The Voice), and just being in a new place. Everything
just feels new. I just feel inspired. I don't know how else to
describe it..."
"I was literally that party girl that you hear about when their
life blows up, and you're like, 'Yeah! I'm going out! Like, watch
me!' We're just trying to have fun, you know?"
