Hello there Young Hollywood. My name is Rob James-Collier and I am from Downton Abbey.
Stay tuned to find out who he says is the better kisser, men or women. Hey guys, Nicky Novak here in the Young Hollywood studio. When Shirley MacLaine arrived on the Downton Abbey set this season, she said of Rob James-Collier, where is the evil one? Let's hope she was talking about his character. Hello evil one.
Hello, how are you doing?
Good, how are you?
I'm alright.
Was she talking about your character or was she talking about you?
I hope she was talking about my character. Yeah, yeah. But I heard that's the first thing she said. Yeah, she, she, she came, she, she arrived on set and we were doing a scene where we were welcoming her character into the house. And she was looking for someone and she went, it's you. The evil one. And then like descended upon me and was like, why are you so evil? I was like, hello. How are you doing? It's Shirley MacLaine. Shirley MacLaine. I did the old look behind me, no, she's talking to me.
Do you think she may be to borrow an English term, do you think she just fancied you?
Yeah, I think she was coming on to me, definitely. She was.
Was there like a little butt grabbing and all that kind of stuff?
Yeah. It was yeah, it was the hand on the inside of the thigh which was the giveaway. Makes it slightly uncomfortable. Well, she's a little bit too needy for me, so I said, it's not gonna work, Shirley.
Yeah. When they come on that strong, it turns you off. Right?
My heart, my heart lies with Maggie Smith.
With Maggie Smith. Well you did, well you had to dance with Maggie Smith.
I did. I trod. I stood on a toe as well.
Did you really?
Never stand on a Dame's toe. You get, you get the death ray glare.
Did you get the slap too?
No, it's just it's all done in a look with Maggie Smith, ain't she? She's just. But that it made you honor more, didn't it? Oh, yeah. Definitely.
Now, did I hear something about you said you can't dance but you can breakdance?
Oh yeah that was just me being silly in a press conference.
So you really can't do a waltz?
They were like, how, how is waltzing? I said, I'm more sort of urban in my interpretation, more street. And I'm more, more of a breaker. Um. That's my natural, that's my natural style. No, I came, that's where I came from the streets like breaking. But I'm 36 now, I've popped a few, you know, hips and stuff, so I just, I just can't do it anymore.
But you have, you have the kicks for it. Let's show the kicks. These are, these have been described. What color would you say these are?
Some lady said puce. Is that a combination of, I hope not, puke and? No, puce which I don't know, I don't know what color it is there. Look at the socks as well.
I would say it's like a a very shocking salmon.
Yeah. Well, like I was saying to you before, I went to HBO yesterday for a meeting and the receptionist who was incidentally quite a foxy lady was like, oh no, you didn't. When I walked in, I was like, about my shoes. I was like, oh yes, I did. This is England.
Do you know what? I heard that you can't go to Spain because whoever the voice over, because the show is so huge. It's now in like 200 countries. And whoever is dubbed, dubbing your voice over in Spain is really, really like it has a very sexy interpretation.
You've done, you've done good research. Italian me is unbelievable. Really? Yeah, it's like, "Sí, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." I'm like, wow. It's like, I wish I sounded like that. He's like, "How can I serve you, madam?" I know Italian me gets the ladies. I know that because it's just in his voice, man. It's, it's innate. I would sleep with him. I would sleep with Italian me. Just on his voice.
Really, really? Well speaking of ladies versus men, you've had to kiss males on the show. Now, on screen kiss. What is more? This is a byproduct of being a gay character, right? This is a byproduct of being gay. What is more, like first of all, who's a, who's a better kisser in general? Is it the men or the females? Dispel the rumor here.
I don't know about better kissing. It's easier to kiss a man because if you kiss a woman, let me explain. If you kiss a woman, you're like, oh no, has she got a boyfriend? Is is he gonna think I'm really, you know, going over the top here. And also, I'm, I'm worried about what my partner, my missus is thinking. Like, you know what I mean? Because when, when I kiss a woman on screen and we'll, we'll be watching it which is kind of a weird experience anyway, watching it with your missus, watching you get off with someone else. She's like, you never kiss me like that. Oh, here we go. Well, you kiss a man on screen, you know you're safe because she knows you're not going to, well, she hopes I'm not going to be enjoying. But secretly I am. Charlie Cox, he's in Boardwalk Empire now. He's got, he's got really soft lips. He's the man.
So generally softer lips are of the males.
Yeah.
Wow.
Yeah. And anyone I've kissed on that show has gone, has started to do really well in Hollywood. So you have like the Midas, like the Midas touch, the Midas lip.
It's just, it just hasn't happened for my career, unfortunately. I'm going to have to try and go with myself somehow and then I'll, I'll, I'll rock it.
It's whoever you kiss.
Yeah, and males, only males on that show. They've all gone, you know.
Well, season three. Oh yeah. If you're not reading the spoilers online because season three has already, again, occurred over in the UK. What can you tease?
Um, for for my character, well, there's a lot going on. I mean, the Downton Abbey is, um, because his lordship has had a lot, has had a series of bad investments. Downton Abbey as we know it, they could lose it, lock, stock and barrel. So that's all kind of going on.
Well, that wouldn't be good for Thomas, now, would it?
No, that's not good. I mean, we'd all be out of a job basically. Um, so um, I'm for Thomas, he someone, a new, a new, uh, person comes into the house who he's manipulating into thinking he love, he becomes besotted with them. But it's borderline stalking. And someone's,
Yeah, you're stalk.
Yeah, he, he falls in love with this person who comes into there this new, uh, member of staff. And someone is manipulating, O'Brien is manipulating him into thinking that, you know, it's reciprocal but it isn't. So Thomas goes on this huge journey and and ends up essentially getting destroyed. And and completely, yeah, yeah. Well, I've heard it's the first time in England people coming up to me going, oh my God, Thomas made me cry last night, I actually felt sorry for him.
Right, because I heard you've been booed before in like Starbucks and things like that.
Yeah, I do. Um, it's all sort of, we have pantomimes over there. It's all pantomime esque. It's all in good humor. It's like, oh, he's here. So then they'll buy me a latte. So it's nice.
Yeah. Here we'll just, we'll just buy you a latte and we'll be nice to you. Well, actually be nice to you. Because you're part of the show, it doesn't matter that you're a baddy or whatever. You're part of this massive show which they love. They love the show, so if you're in the show. They just love it. They, they love you regardless.
By default.
By default, yeah. It's. So, um, so I would like to make you get up.
Oh God. We have a couple trays here. I'm a lefty, so. You're you're a lefty. And then that goes behind the back which you did before. All right. And then when you serve and say there's someone sat there. You always come in from the left shoulder. And you kind of just come in and you smooth around into there so they can get it. And then you come back out. And then you walk slowly onto the next one and arrive at the left hand side of the shoulder again. At the same time, keep an eye on Mr. Carson and see how far he's got around with the gravy. And because you have to you have to stay equidistant. Yeah. It's a good word, that, isn't it? Equidistant. And then you move yourself all the way around the table till everyone's served. Ladies first.
My goodness, you've done your research.
Yeah. It's kind of what I do for a living, so. You hope so. So yeah. Can I put this down? Well, only if you're a proper. Oh, okay. There you go. Oh, I just fell. I think, I think Young Hollywood got a bit more than they bargained for there. And cut.
