Tyler Perry's New Studio Complex Is a Game-Changer In More Ways Than One!

Tyler Perry must have really been paying attention in school when they taught us to go big or go home. He recently bought a 330-acre lot, formerly a military base, in Atlanta, Georgia, and created Tyler Perry Studios. With the opening of his own studio, Tyler Perry has become the first African-American to own their own studio outright.

The studio includes 12 soundstages with plans to expand and build so much more on the hundreds of available acreage. The massive amount of available space actually makes Tyler Perry Studios bigger than Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount and Sony combined. Oh, and the land used to be a Confederate army base. We love a glow-up.

Along with additional soundstages, Perry hopes to construct centers which would greatly benefit the community in Atlanta. Perry states his desire to build a compound for displaced LGBTQ youth, trafficked women and girls, and homeless women. In these compounds, they will be trained in the entertainment business and taught how to become self-sufficient.

Tyler Perry has proven himself to be a role model in the African-American community over his decades-spanning career. He has 48 directing credits, 49 writing credits, and 41 acting credits on IMDB.

Potentially his most famous role came in the form of everyone’s favorite old black woman, Madea. The first Madea movie, Madea’s Family Reunion, was released in 2006 and the most recent one, A Madea Family Funeral, came out in 2019. Not very many people are able to spread one idea over 13 years and keep it funny.

Not only did Perry write and direct the hilarious films, he also starred in them as three different people, one of them being Madea herself. He can already cross Director, Writer, and Actor off the list of potential careers and now he can also cross off Studio Mogul.
