Whether you’re snowed in or choosing to be a homebody this holiday season, don’t fret. There are plenty of ways to spend your holidays indoors. Rather than being stuck in traffic on your way to the mountains or the mall, stay in your living room, invite some friends over, and do some of these fun indoor activities. Not only will you save money, you’ll also be creating cherished, cozy memories alongside your loved ones. Here are some ways to get the most out of your holiday "staycation"!

Play Board Games

Not only are board games an amazing way to pass the time, but they can also bring people together during the holiday season. Get your friends and family together and have a game night instead of leaving the house. Whether it's a classic, like Monopoly, or a modern-take on old classics, like Hot Seat, gather around a fire and play for hours on end.

Make Gingerbread Houses

Not only is this activity creative and fun-filled, it also doubles as a festive holiday snack. If you want to put an exciting twist on this classic holiday activity, make it a competition and form teams amongst your loved ones. Give each team a theme that they have to decorate their house as and set a time limit. Have the oldest (or the youngest) person in the family be the judge and pick a funny prize to go along with the game. Make sure to let loose and get decorating!

Read a Book (or Two)

Celebrating the holidays isn’t for everyone. Whether your family doesn’t celebrate for religious reasons or being around a bunch of people just isn’t your thing, don’t worry. Holiday breaks are the perfect time to catch up on TV shows you’ve missed or movies you want to see, but they can also be a chance to pick up better habits. Though reading may seem like a chore to most, holiday-themed books are the perfect way to celebrate the holidays in a low-key fashion. Check out some of these titles in the Young Adult genre that are filled with holiday cheer:My New Crush Gave to Me, Kiss Me in New York, The Afterlife of Holly Chase, and Let it Snow

Have a Holiday Movie Night

If you choose to stay warm and cozy indoors this holiday season, do it with the help of Netflix and Hulu. Movies likeThe Holiday Calendar and Let it Snow are both modern holiday movies on Netflix. Same Time, Next Christmas can be found on Hulu and stars Lea Michele. Make a warm cup of hot cocoa, put on your favorite Christmas socks, and start up the television for these modern holiday movies that are sure to fill your heart with glee.

Happy Holidays!
