Although E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) may be long gone at this point, that has not stopped the gaming industry from making June the time to reveal what they have in store for the latter half of the year and beyond. Whether it be Sony’s State of Play (that had Astro Bot get his own game and… that’s about it), the Summer Games Fest 2024 (that had a new Sonic x Shadow Generations trailer and… that’s about it), or the Xbox Showcase (that revealed Doom: The Dark Ages and… that’s about it — I’m noticing a pattern), gaming fans casual and hardcore alike have had announcements to look forward to, and then some.

And per usual, Nintendo made sure to throw their hat into the ring with a new Nintendo Direct this past week (June 18). Now, if I may spoil my thoughts for a little bit, this Direct was surprisingly awesome, but I figured it would be more fun if I presented my quick thoughts for each reveal during the Direct. So, sit back, relax, and experience our reactions to the Nintendo Direct on…

Mario & Luigi: Brothership (November 7, 2024)

Holy cow, a new Mario & Luigi game, that’s cool! Mario RPGs are really having a moment right now after the Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remakes, and this is a new Mario & Luigi game. Take my money please, thank you!

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (July 18, 2024)

Another look at Nintendo World Championship, it looks fun! It’s basically another NES Remix game and that makes sense. Looking forward to it when I have some spare funds… and time (that’d be nice too).

Fairy Tail 2 (Winter 2024)

I’m not familiar with the Fairy Tail series, but I’m happy for those who are cuz this looks like a really well-produced title, good for them!

FANTASIAN Neo Dimension (Holidays 2024)

Oh, I’ve heard of this game, I think it was an homage to PlayStation-era RPGs that was an exclusive to Apple Arcade. So, thank the Nintendo gods that this game escaped that exclusivity; could Sonic Dream Team be next?!

Nintendo Switch Sports Update (Summer 2024)

Ayyy, a new sport is getting added to Switch Sports, that’s cool! I don’t remember playing Basketball much in other Wii Sports games, but keep the new updates coming!

MIO: Memories in Orbit (2025)

What is this Mio: Memories in Orbit game?! Such a beautiful art style and it’s a Metroidvania?! Sign me UP!

Disney Illusion Island (shadow-drop)

New content for Disney Illusion Island is cool, I’ve been meaning to play that game for a while now, so a new update is nice, plus it’s our first shadow-drop for the Direct!

Hello Kitty Island Adventure (2025)

I think this was also an Apple Arcade exclusive, and it looks very cute. Good for Hello Kitty fans!

Looney Tunes: Wacky World of Sports (Fall 2024)

That Looney Tunes sports game looks surprisingly fun! Also it gives off major Mario Sports game vibes.

Among Us Update (shadow-drop)

Sus...

Farmagia (November 1, 2024)

A farming sim where your farming monsters?! Pfft, why didn’t I think of that?! Seriously, though, it looks fun!

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (January 16, 2025)

Ayyy we got Donkey Kong Country Returns coming to Switch, that’s cool! I can use this as an excuse to replay this and Tropical Freeze, so thanks Nintendo!

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (November 14, 2024)

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (god, that title) looks really pretty, so I’m happy for Dragon Quest fans! Plus, they get two more remakes after waiting long enough for this; gotta love some bonus goodies.

Funko Fusion (September 13, 2024)

That looks shockingly fun! Who knew that Funko! Pops could have a good video game too!? Although it does look rough graphically and performance-wise, oh well...

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (June 27, 2024)

Yup, another look at this game for safety. It looks like how it has so far. Nothing more to report except that Luigi is superior to Mario, fight me!

The New Denpa Men (July 22, 2024)

Well, this looks like that Miitopia game if they took a lot of drugs, and not in a bad way. I mean, hey, it’s free to play, so that alone makes it worth a shot!

Metal Slug Attack Reloaded (shadow-drop)

Another shadow drop, cool! I need to play this series at some point, but this looks like a fun start!

Darkest Dungeon II (July 15, 2024)

The art style alone on this one is very interesting!

NSO + Expansion Pack Games (shadow-drop)

It was only a matter of time before Metroid Zero Mission came to NSO, so I’m happy! Also, Perfect Dark is a pleasant surprise. The mature-rated games section now leaves the door open for Conker’s Bad Fur Day, which could be fun.

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero (2025)

Can’t say this is for me, but it looks charming, and I didn’t even realize it was a legacy sequel, so that’s always cool!

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (2024)

MARVEL VS CAPCOM COLLECTION, HELL YES! I may be terrible with traditional fighting games, but I’ll absolutely be picking this up. (Also, Punisher had a beat-em-up, since when?)

Super Mario Party Jamboree (October 17, 2024)

Super Mario Party Jamboree, let’s go!! Looks like they’re taking the best parts of Superstars and Super Mario Party and rolling them into one — this is another easy purchase, no matter if its day one or a Christmas present for myself!

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (September 26, 2024)

You thought announcing a new 2D Zelda would be enough, but we can finally play AS ZELDA!? Hell yeah! Echoes of Wisdom looks like such a fun and unique Zelda game with the same inventiveness as Tears of the Kingdom — I can’t wait!

Just Dance 2025 Edition (October 2024)

Yup, Just Dance 2025 looks like… another Just Dance game. If it ain’t broke, it ain’t broke!

LEGO Horizon Adventures (Holidays 2024)

It still makes me laugh so much that PlayStation has their first game coming to a Nintendo system in the form of a LEGO game. Seriously, though, LEGO Horizon Adventures looks fun and reminds me to get off my butt and finish the first game.

Stray (Holidays 2024)

Speaking of finishing my playthrough, wow, Stray is coming to Switch! Definitely looks like a lesser version graphically, but good on them for getting it on the Switch anyways, especially since there’s gonna be an animated movie at some point.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game (Holidays 2024)

I’m not a farming sim person, but it makes sense to do one with Lord of the Rings via Tales of the Shire. Now what about second breakfast?!

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (September 6, 2024)

Another Ace Attorney collection is cool (especially the release of one for the first time in the States). I need to play those games at some point.

The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy (Early 2025)

This looks stressful. Like, being a high schooler is one thing, but an alien invasion on top of that?! That’s something else.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven (October 24, 2024)

Pretty! Yeah, that’s it. Sometimes all you need are pretty visuals.

Metroid Prime 4 – Beyond (2025)

Oh my god, we’re finally seeing Metroid Prime 4!!! Quite literally 7 years since the initial reveal. New subtitle Beyond is badass, the gameplay snippet looked awesome, and still, holy crap it’s finally here! The 2025 release date makes me still think this could be a title for both this and Switch 2; either way I am HYPED!

For what is likely one of the last full Nintendo Directs of the original Switch, I am pleasantly surprised how much they were able to include here. If this is how the Switch is going to go out before we get the Switch 2 reveal, then the Switch sure is going to go out with a bang and then some! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna play Metroid: Zero Mission!
