Netflix's "The Family" Is The New Shocking Docu-Series You Have To See To Believe!
I am a fanatic for true crime. So much so that my ringtone is the Serial theme song so I can feel like I’m solving crimes on a day-to-day basis. In the past, Netflix has taken us on rollercoaster rides with "Making a Murderer", "Abducted in Plain Sight", and "The Keepers". Now, they are shocking us with its new show "The Family". We’ve seen it time and again in movies, of kings and leaders being influenced by vile confidants, take Jafar in Aladdin for example. "The Family" explores who is shaping America’s leaders of today, and it’s shocking.
The show is based on the books The Family: The Secret
Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power and C
Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy by
journalist Jeff Sharlet. The show incorporates
interviews and dramatized reenactments that keep you on the edge of
your seat.
But what exactly does “The Family” mean, you might ask? The Family, also known as The Fellowship Foundation, is a secretive Christian Conservative movement that influences our politicians. They focus on spreading the gospel of Jesus, but instead of focusing on themes of love, they strictly harp on power.
Throughout the series, you learn precisely how they get away with it, how much power they have, and how they have shaped the world in which we live. It’s frightening to find out that people are being influenced right under our nose and we don’t see a single part of it. And that is the point of The Family -- to stay invisible, influence, and grow in strength. They are like the most famous people you don’t know.
"The Family" is a 5-part series, so you can easily binge-watch it
within a day, but I must warn you, it will leave you questioning a
lot of things. Imagine an invisible underground cult-like group
that helps to run parts of the world, and you have no say. Happy
binge-watching!
