ICYMI: Margot Robbie Developing Family-Friendly Horror Anthology Based on 'Ameri-Scares' Book Series!

Written by D.J. Rivera. Published: August 04 2019

Ever since the short-lived “Pan Am” series came and went, the world has seen one actress take Hollywood by storm. Whether it is bashing in bad guys' skulls with Harley Quinn’s trademark bat or swinging through the jungle with Tarzan, Margot Robbie has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of acting. The Academy Award-nominated I, Tonya actress has shocked audiences and defied expectations on her rise to the top of the game. There is no debating she has easily solidified herself as a top-tier performer in every sense of the word. Her most recent feat can be witnessed in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood where she plays murdered actress Sharon Tate. The critics are already buzzing about this one, which lends the question, what will Robbie do next? And the answer may very well shock you, or maybe even scare you...

Ameri-Scares, the popular book series from author Elizabeth Massie, is getting the TV treatment, and Robbie is spearheading the eerie endeavor. The show will be a "family-friendly" horror anthology series, and the actress/producer will have plenty of source material to utilize to scare audiences, as Massie has put out 8 books so far. Every novel in this acclaimed series is inspired by or based on folktales, legends, and myths from that particular state. So it makes sense that, in the series, each episode would take place in a different part of the USA, having viewers experience a significant past event or urban legend that a particular state is notoriously known for. It is America like you’ve never seen it before -- historically horrific, and it's all thanks to Robbie.

This tantalizing terror-fest is being developed for either a traditional network or a streaming service, so it is pretty much up for grabs. It's hard to imagine all the major players not keeping their eye on this one, especially since there are about to be a lot more options when it comes to streaming over the next few months. Robbie and LuckyChap Entertainment are teaming with Assemble Media to make this frightening fantasy a reality.

The horror anthology game is on fire right now. “American Horror Story”, “The Terror”, and “Castle Rock” are definitely resonating well with audiences, so it makes sense that Robbie would want to take this opportunity to dive headfirst into the horror space with a property that the fans already love. Instead of pushing the boundaries of the genre by scarring viewers for life, “Ameri-Scares" will take a different approach. If you remember campfires and sleepovers as a kid, you’ll recall that telling scary stories was an integral part of all the fun. That essence is what Robbie is hoping to rekindle with audiences. But just because it’s being sold as a family-friendly program, that doesn’t mean it still can’t cause you to sleep with the lights on. I’m thinking a few notches above Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark? and a few notches under “The Haunting of Hill House”, just my best guess. Either way, I'm pretty much sold.
