Alright, so, in this trailer, we’ve got all of our favorite toys hanging out, having a great time, happy as ever. We see Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr & Mrs Potato Head, Rex, Ham, the Alien, Slinky Dog, and… a spork? Yes, a spork, named Forky (voiced by Tony Hale), who is terrified and screams “I don’t belong here!!!” Once everyone has fallen over because this fork ruined all of the fun prancing, he screams “I’m not a toy!!” Well, alrighty then.
But let me just say… they were all prancing in front of a blue sky with puffy clouds… which is famously known to be the design of the walls of Andy’s room. So… does this mean we’ll see Andy again in Toy Story 4?
Well, ya see, we’re not exactly sure if we’ll get to see more of Andy in this new film. Disney has provided a description for Toy Story 4, which states: “Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called 'Forky' to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
Many fans are still confused as to why we need a Toy Story 4. To recap, at the end of Toy Story 3, Andy goes off to be a grown-up big boy at college and gives away all of his toys to a little girl (Bonnie), who is a family friend. He leaves them with someone new, to make up her own adventures and stories with his old toys.
Toy Story 3 was the film that truly tested my emotions and made me sob like a baby, but it was also the PERFECT conclusion to the series. It tied up every loose string. It gave closure, it gave an ending to all of these great characters. So… WHY do we need another one?
Don’t get me wrong, I love Toy Story just as much as the next guy. I love the characters, and they always have such fun and energetic plots. I’m totally excited to see my favorite toys in action again. I can’t wait to relive my childhood by going to the theater and seeing it! I hope it’ll be as fulfilling as Incredibles 2 was.
So, I have some predictions as to where I think this plot might be going, and what I want (need) to see happen.
New Characters Ducky and Bunny
Since we also got a little teaser this week of new characters Ducky and Bunny (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, respectively, seemingly recreating their Valet characters from "Key & Peele"), I have a feeling that their characters will play a major role in the antics of our old favorite toys.
In the teaser, we see Ducky and Bunny discussing the upcoming Toy Story 4, only to meet Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen). They’re at a carnival, so I think that setting might play a key role to our story.
Forky
As per the description, we know that the toys will go on a “road trip adventure”. So, where does Forky fit into all of this? Well, here’s my prediction. I think that our beloved Bonnie forgot her favorite toys at home one day and didn’t have them to play with at Sunnyside Daycare. So, underneath a cabinet, she finds Forky, who’s been forgotten and lost in Sunnyside Daycare all these years. Bonnie plays with Forky, takes him home to the other toys, where he is terrified, claiming he is not a toy and doesn’t belong. Ring a bell? Remember when Buzz also thought he wasn’t a toy? Those were the days…
Plot predictions and what I need to happen
Because I just made that little suggestion that Andy MIGHT be back, that’s what I need. I NEED to see Andy. He’s probably graduated from college by now. And here’s my prediction of how he COULD work into our new plot -- Bonnie will find Forky at Sunnyside, bring him home, and then her family will go on a road trip vacation across the country. One night, she brings Buzz and Woody to a carnival, where she wins Ducky and Bunny at a game. SO, now she has Ducky, Bunny, Woody, and Buzz. BUT, while at the carnival, the toys somehow get lost. And (similar to the plots of past Toy Story films) they have to find their way back. Somewhere along the way, they SEE ANDY. And they don’t know how to find their way back to Bonnie because her family is on a cross country roadtrip!!! What do they do? Do they somehow get to Andy? Do they try to find their way back to Bonnie? Who knows, but we know that the adventure will “show Woody how big the world can be for a toy”. Oof.
Obviously, these are just my silly little predictions and hopes after analyzing the teasers and posters. None of this is confirmed to happen. BUT, it’s a plot I would love to see.
So, do you guys have any predictions for the new film? Are you excited for the new addition to the Toy Story series?
Be sure to go see Toy Story 4 when it comes to theaters June 21, 2019. To infinity, AND BEYOND!
