Clubhouse: The New Social Media App Everyone's Waiting For An Invite To!

Written by Morgan Glicksman. Published: February 28 2021

TikTok took over the social media world last year (and is still dominating the scene), but there might be a new app taking over soon. If you're kicking yourself for not believing in TikTok when it first became a thing so, you will definitely not do that again.

The new app that's all the rage is called Clubhouse. Essentially, it’s an exclusive social networking app that uses audio chat rooms to allow users to meet, talk, and share ideas. Users can listen in on interviews and conversations on a range of different topics. It can be literally anything from money and sports to beauty and health to politics — there really is no limit.

Basically, it’s like listening to a live podcast, a conference call, or a TED Talk where users can join in on the conversation. There are no pictures or videos like Instagram or TikTok and there’s no text like Twitter. So, it really is the next new thing and it’s unlike any social media platform we’ve seen yet. Another thing that makes it different is that not just anyone can get in on it. You have to be “invited” to make an account by someone who is already in. But, each existing user can only invite 2 people! (So you better download it quickly.) Remember what I said about TikTok?

Let me put it into perspective for you — the app came out in April 2020 and it had a couple thousand users. Today, in less than 10 months, the app has millions of users (and it’s worth over a billion dollars). What really got people talking was when Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg recently joined the app. The good news is, with so many current users, you’re bound to know at least 1 person who can throw you an invite.

Here’s what you need to know: There’s the people talking, there’s the people listening, and then there’s a moderator who oversees the chat room. The chatrooms are called Clubs (hence the name). But, it’s not just experts, big names, or celebrities talking -- any 2 users can create their own clubs. There are still followers and everyone gets a profile. You can add future/upcoming clubs to your calendar and set notifications for them. There’s also an explore page so you can find conversations going on about whatever you’re interested in.

Some of our favorite celebs already know what’s up and are using it too. Drake, Tiffany Haddish, Virgil Abloh, and Mark Cuban are all in the club. Have you downloaded it yet?
