5 Television Shows That Broke Barriers and Took Risks Like “The OA”!

5. “Sense8”

When you have a project created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski (the masterminds behind The Matrix), it’s basically guaranteed to be unique, and with “Sense8”, the siblings created something truly magical.

The 8 main characters of the show live in different places across the globe, and at the beginning of the series, they discover that they are all a part of a “cluster of sensates”. All born on the same day at the exact same moment, they are all mentally connected and have an ability to be with each other even if they are continents apart. Along with that, they can feel everything the other 7 are feeling, both physically and emotionally. The story follows these 8 individuals as they learn more about the people they are linked with, and more about themselves, as they explore this new world.

It’s a lot more complicated than that, but you get the gist. The cast is very diverse, and the show represents many different cultures, as well as different gender identities and sexualities. Because of the international aspect of the plot and characters, they filmed the show all over the world, and it got expensive. That’s why Netflix says they chose to cancel the show after 2 seasons.

Well, there’s a huge fanbase for the show, and they called for a different decision, so Netflix caved and gave the show a 2-hour finale movie, which came out in June of last year.

Like “The OA”, all of these television series took advantage of the opportunity to make something truly unique and special, and it created some of the best characters and stories ever. So if you are looking for a new show to obsess over, watch one of these five! We know that nothing can fill the hole “The OA” leaves, but these TV shows can try.
