Porter started conversations left and right when he graced The Oscars red carpet in a perfectly tailored Christian Siriano tuxedo gown. Porter hoped to raise questions like: How come when women wear pants, it’s powerful, but when men wear a dress it’s disgusting? Siriano was an appropriate choice of stylist, considering that the New York designer has made it part of his brand DNA to embrace size and gender inclusivity in his designs. Together, Porter and Soriano were able to challenge the Oscars' typically more restrained dress code.

Porter is well-known for his role in the Emmy-nominated drama series “Pose”, which has made television history by featuring the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles. Set in the 1980s, the dance musical analyzes the juxtaposition of life and society in New York and spotlights the legends and icons of New York’s underground ball culture. The premiere of its first season was hit with positive reviews, and Porter himself subsequently received award nominations, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Drama Series, for his role as the troubled ballroom emcee Pray Tell.

Season 2 of “Pose” premieres tonight on FX!
