Taylor Swift used first pay cheques to buy Mean Girls car

Taylor Swift used her first royalties cheques to buy a car featured in Lindsay Lohan's bully movie Mean Girls as a way of defying her own childhood tormentors.

The country star reveals the female pupils who bullied her at school were obsessed with the 2004 movie, which features Lohan as a naive high school student who joins a cool crowd of mean girls nicknamed The Plastics, led by Rachel McAdams.

After leaving school and signing a record deal, Swift used her first wages to buy a Lexus SC430 convertible - the car driven by McAdams' character in the movie - and the singer admits she deliberately bought the vehicle as an act of "rebellion".

She says, "All the girls who were mean to me in middle school idolised The Plastics. I think I chose that car as a kind of rebellion against that type of girl. It was like - you guys never invited me to anything, you guys are obsessed with that car and that girl and what The Plastics wear and how they talk and you quote them all the time, but I've been working really hard every single day. And instead of going to parties I've been writing songs and playing shows and getting really small pay cheques that have added up and now I get to buy a car - and guess which one I'm going to buy? The one that the girl you idolise has."
