Sony bosses deny plans to remove Beyonce albums from Tidal

Sony bosses insist they have "no plans" to remove singer Beyonce's music from her husband Jay Z's new streaming service Tidal.

The announcement from Sony Music head Doug Morris comes after reports suggesting record label chiefs were planning to remove the singer's back catalogue from Tidal unless they received a hefty cash advance.

Other major record labels - including Universal and Warner - have already struck a deal with the streaming service, but Sony has not.

Beyonce, who is a principle owner of Tidal, is contractually bound to her label, but bosses have now denied rumours they want to block her music from the service.

Morris said in a statement, "Jay-Z is a friend and business associate for many years. I have always admired his business acumen, his entrepreneurship and his passion for music. All of our content, including Beyonce, is available through the Tidal service, and we have announced no plans to remove our catalog (sic) from Tidal. Like all of our other partners, we are rooting for Jay and Tidal to succeed."

The streaming service was launched earlier this year (15) as a rival to Spotify but it sank out of the iTunes top 700 app chart less than a month after its debut, prompting Jay Z to issue a statement insisting the business is "doing just fine".
