Selena Gomez serenades Christian pop fans

Selena Gomez surprised Christian concertgoers on Thursday (25Feb16) by joining Young & Free onstage in Los Angeles.

The Christian group, which hails from Sydney, Australia's Hillsong Church, introduced Selena as a very special guest at the Belasco Theater show, sending fans into a frenzy.

She performed her track Nobody alongside members of Young & Free, and encouraged the crowd to sing along by gesturing to the audience during the appearance, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"Thank you so much you guys for letting me come onstage with you," Selena declared as she introduced her ballad, "but tonight it's more than a concert, it's more than Hillsong, it's more than me coming onstage and singing a song for you; it's about a relationship that's greater than anything..."

The 23-year-old previously revealed her Christian faith had inspired Nobody after a Twitter fan asked her who the track was about.

"God," Selena replied in October (15). "Nobody is about Him."

In the chorus of the spiritual song, she sings, "Nobody's gonna love me like you/Nobody", while it also features the lyrics: "No heart, no hands, no skin, no touch/Can get me there, nowhere enough/To love me like you do, to love me like you do/No kiss, no lips, no feel, no rush/Can you keep me high, I swear no one."

Selena's ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber, has also been more vocal of late about his faith in God, after turning to religion after a trouble-filled few years.

In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Justin insisted he wouldn't have been able to put his past bad behavior behind him if it wasn't for his Christian faith.

"I feel like that's why I have a relationship with Him, because I need it," the 21-year-old explained. "I suck by myself. Like, when I'm by myself and I feel like I have nothing to lean on? Terrible. Terrible person.

"If I was doing this on my own, I would constantly be doing things that are, I mean, I still am doing things that are stupid, but... it just gives me some sort of hope and something to grasp onto, and a feeling of security, and a feeling of being wanted, and a feeling of being desired, and I feel like we can only get so much of that from a human."
