Sam Smith's voice coach slams Adele for concert no-shows
Sam Smith's vocal coach has criticized Adele for failing to take care of her voice after she canceled two huge concerts.
The Hello singer, 29, left fans shocked and disappointed after pulling out of the last two shows at London's Wembley Stadium last weekend (01-02Jul17), as she had damaged her vocal cords.
Anthony Wade, who coaches fellow British singing sensation Sam Smith, has blamed Adele's relaxed attitude to singing for the damage.
"She's got an easygoing (sic) attitude which people love, but you can't do that with your artistry," the singing expert, dubbed Doctor Voice, told The Sun. "She has an artistic responsibility for the lovely people who have bought her tickets, and she did not take responsibility of her vocals. This is evident."
Wade suspects Adele may have been damaging her voice for years by failing to warm up properly before singing.
"I believe she's had a slapdash attitude about the way she warms up or uses her voice, or she's not being given the correct advice," he added.
She previously underwent throat surgery in 2011 to remove a benign polyp from her vocal cords.
Adele played two Wembley dates before canceling her final two, and revealed that she had struggled through the gigs.
"I had to push a lot harder than I normally do," she wrote in a statement. "I felt like I constantly had to clear my throat, especially last night. I went to see my throat doctor this evening because my voice didn't open up at all today and it turns out I have damaged my vocal cords."
Wade said pushing your vocals to the limit was "the worst thing" a singer could do.
The canceled dates would have been the finale of her epic 13 month world tour, although organizers are hoping to reschedule and ticketholders have been offered refunds.
