Ricky Gervais: 'Aging destroys fear'
Comedian Ricky Gervais is becoming more fearless with jokes as he ages.
The 54-year-old British funnyman is known for his wry sense of humor and he has received flack in the past from some critics who view his wisecracks in shows like The Office as incredibly offensive.
Gervais has also hosted trophy-giving ceremony the Golden Globe
Awards four times in the past and although people continue to
express concern over the nature of his jokes, he simply doesn't
care what they think anymore.
“I think I’ve reached the age where I don’t have any fear anymore,”
the told the New York Daily News. “For 10 years, there wasn’t a
week that went past when a journalist didn’t say, ‘This is the end
of his career, this joke’...The more they say that, the bigger I’m
getting.”
Gervais, who is currently promoting his new movie Special
Correspondents, doesn't think it's his problem if other people get
offended by his work.
“If you’re offended about something, then grow a pair,” he advised.
“If you’re offended about something that doesn’t mean you’re right.
Some people are offended by equality, some people are offended by
mixed marriage, some people are offended by same-sex marriage. What
do we do about that? We f**king ignore them! I don’t give a f**k
what you’re offended by.”
“This is for intelligent grown-ups," he added about his humor. "If
you don’t get it, f**k you. Leave. You can f**king leave. This is
my house. You come to my gig, you’re in my f**king house.”
In addition to new comedy Special Correspondents, which will be
available to stream on Netflix starting 29 April (16), fans will
have the opportunity to see Gervais onstage during a forthcoming
stand-up special, which will be released later on this year.
