Petition launched for Weird Al Super Bowl show

Fans of singing funnyman 'Weird Al' Yankovic have launched a petition calling for President Barack Obama to insist the Handy hitmaker performs at next year's (15) Super Bowl.

Just weeks after Weird Al landed his first number one album in his three decade career, the petition addressed to the White House calls on top politicians to influence the National Football League's Super Bowl half-time entertainment choice.

The Change.org initiative, created by Ed Ball, has collected over 19,000 signatures as of late Wednesday (06Aug14).

Ball writes, "For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show. would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event."

And Ball has gone one step further, suggesting his hero could feature some of the pop stars whose songs have been satirised by Yankovic, performing his version of their tunes.
