Nathan Sykes unable to finish The Wanted album due to throat issues

Nathan Sykes was halfway through recording The Wanted's latest album when he was silenced by a haemorrhaging nodule on his vocal cords, and his struggle can be heard in the band's new music.

Sykes is currently taking a break from his work with the group after he underwent an operation to repair the damage earlier this month (Apr13).

The singer had to bow out of recording the band's new album Third Strike to undergo the voice-saving procedure, and the group's latest track Walks Like Rihanna was the last single Sykes was able to sing on.

Bandmate Siva Kaneswaran has revealed Sykes' vocal struggle can be heard in the recordings and admits his friend was devastated when he realised the studio sessions were continuing without him.

He tells BBC Newsbeat, "You can obviously hear in his voice something is difficult. All the other tracks we did after that he wasn't able to record and it's been quite difficult for him.

"What else can we do? You can't just click your fingers and bring the voice back, you got to just work with it. Our love goes with him and hopefully he will recover. It takes a long time for the vocal cords to heal properly. If it doesn't heal in a certain way, it's going to take a lot longer.

"He might not be able to sing at all, who knows? You've just got to wait and see. Luckily we had a lot of these songs recorded before but there have been a few songs that have come in."
