Matt Healy: 'Dating Taylor Swift would be emasculating'
Taylor Swift's rumored rocker boyfriend Matt Healy has slammed the pop star, insisting a relationship with her would have been "emasculating".
The 1975 frontman and Mean singer sparked speculation they had struck up a romance back in 2014, but both stars denied the gossip at the time, with Matt going so far as to describing the rumors "fake" and a "farce".
Nearly two years later, Matt has brought up the pairing once again,
telling Q magazine the fanfare around the romance allegations were
shocking.
"So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl, it ends up
going everywhere," he recalls. "I mean, I got on E! News and people
were like, 'Who's Matt Healy?' so that was cool. But I didn't make
a big deal out of it myself. It's not really anything to talk
about, because if she wasn't Taylor Swift we wouldn't be talking
about her. She wasn't a big impact on my life."
The British singer then went a step further and insisted any sort
of high-profile relationship with the biggest pop star in the world
wouldn't have been good for his ego.
"It's just interesting to me how interested the world is about
Taylor Swift. The reason I mention that is because if I had
properly gone out with Taylor Swift, I would've been, 'F**king
hell, I am not being Taylor Swift's boyfriend. You know, 'F**k.
That.' That's also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating
thing (sic)."
While Matt's flirtation with Taylor went nowhere, she did manage to
find love with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris in 2015. The pair recently
celebrated their one-year anniversary during a tropical beach
getaway.
