Madonna angers fans with gun stunt in Colorado
Pop superstar Madonna infuriated fans in Colorado on Thursday night (18Oct12) when she brandished a gun during her concert, three months after the state was rocked by a deadly cinema massacre.
A dozen people were murdered and another 58 injured when accused gunman James Holmes allegedly opened fire in a crowded midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora on 20 July (12).
The Material Girl took her MDNA tour to the Pepsi Center in Denver
this week, but refused to censor her performance in light of the
tragedy, and whipped out a pistol during her set, as she has done
in all of her previous shows.
The stunt angered many audience members, and several locals even
called in to NBC TV station 9News to express their disdain at her
use of the gun prop, particularly in the wake of the area's recent
history.
Madonna has previously defended the controversial decision to use
fake weapons during her stage spectacular, saying, "It's true there
is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the
use of fake guns - but they are used as metaphors. I do not condone
violence or the use of guns."
