Liam Hemsworth's childhood tumble dryer trauma
Liam Hemsworth's brothers used to trap him in the tumble dryer when he was a child.
The 26-year-old actor is the youngest of three boys, with his siblings Chris and Luke also working as actors. When they were growing up in Australia, Liam fell victim to his brothers' pranks, and describes his upbringing as "loving but mostly traumatic".
"They used to put me in the dryer a lot," Liam said during an
interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night
(15Jun16). "They wouldn’t put the heat on but they’d put me in
there and then (mimics the drum going round)."
"I think they (my parents) just turned a blind eye to that sort of
thing, they were like, ‘What are you going to do? They’re going to
do what they’re going to do'."
Liam and his brothers are arguably some of the most famous exports
to come out of Australia and despite now spending the majority of
his time in America, Liam gets frustrated with some of the
stereotypes that exist about Australians.
"The worst is shrimp on the barbies," Liam laughed. "We do have
barbies (barbecues) but we don’t call shrimp shrimp, we call them
prawns. And typically we don’t really barbecue prawns in Australia.
Most of the time people boil them, so the whole statement is just
ridiculous for an Australian. I don’t want to hear it anymore!"
However, he did acknowledge that there are some assumptions that
are true about living in Down Under, adding: "Lots of deadly
snakes, lots of deadly spiders, big sharks, big crocodiles and you
know, you’ve got to fight your way through life."
Liam is currently promoting Independence Day: Resurgence, the
sequel to 1995's Independence Day. In the film, Liam plays Jake
Morrison, who helps Jeff Goldblum (who reprises his role as tech
wizard David Levinson) fight off an alien invasion.
