Lena Dunham takes issue with Justin Bieber's new song
Feminist icon Lena Dunham has taken issue with Justin Bieber's new single What Do You Mean? because she fears it's a commentary on consensual sex.
A day after Bieber performed the track at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (30AUg15), the actress/writer took to Twitter and suggested the lyrics were inappropriate.
She wrote, "Let's do away with pop songs where a girl nods yes when
she means no and vice versa, k?"
The 29 year old appeared to be taking aim at the song's lyrics,
"What do you mean?/When you nod your head yes/But you wanna say
no/What do you mean?"
Bieber's fans insist the song is about general confusion in
relationships, but when asked about the meaning behind the track,
the singer recently told radio presenter Ryan Seacrest, "Girls are
often just flip-floppy. They say something and they mean something
else. So, what do you mean? I don’t really know, that’s why I’m
asking."
