Lena Dunham cut back on Twitter due to cyberbullying
Actress Lena Dunham has cut back on her Twitter.com usage after she received multiple taunts from online bullies.
The Girls star was once a celebrity staple on the microblogging site, but she confessed she has had to remove the Twitter app from her cell phone because the rude comments from Internet critics was becoming too much.
During an interview with presenter Ryan Seacrest during the Golden
Globes red carpet on Sunday (11Jan15), the host asked Dunham
whether she would be checking social media for fan reactions to the
Girls season four premiere, which aired in America the same
night.
Dunham replied, "I deleted Twitter because I'm trying to create a
safer space for myself emotionally. People like, threatened my life
and told me what a cow I am so I decided I was gonna cut it out...
I check it occasionally, but it's not the same co-dependence
Twitter that I once shared...
"It's the dark side of the Internet. There's a lot of people I love
on Twitter, but unfortunately, you can't read those without
deranged neocons telling you you should be buried under a pile of
rocks."
