Jennifer Lawrence wins first Golden Globe

Jennifer Lawrence picked up the first award at this year's Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles when she was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Hustle.

The young star paid tribute to her director David O. Russell in her acceptance speech, revealing she had been a longtime fan of his films before she landed a role in one - Silver Linings Playbook.

She said, "I just thought, 'This is the most brilliant man in every single way,' and to think that by some weird twist of fate that that's the same man who made my career what it is is so weird and wonderful."
