Hectic schedule took its toll on Chris Hemsworth's marriage

Chris Hemsworth's marriage to Elsa Pataky faced its greatest challenge while he was bouncing between Ghostbusters and the Avengers.

The Australian hunk has been married to the sexy Spaniard for almost seven years, but he admits it has been a struggle to balance his career and his home life - revealing Pataky has sacrificed more than he has.

"My wife and I fell in love, had kids, didn’t really see each other for a few years, then fell back in love," he tells GQ Australia. "In terms of work, (Elsa has) certainly given up more than I have."

The 34-year-old has certainly kept busy, juggling his work on the Thor films with The Avengers franchise and roles in blockbusters including The Huntsman and Star Trek, but being in demand has kept Hemsworth, who is is father to India, five, and twins Tristan and Sasha, three, away from his family.

“(Elsa would) like me to step back and be at home with the kids more, and of course, I want that too, but I feel like I’m at this crucial point in my career," he says. "I’ve just got to set up for longevity or I’ll slip off."

But the actor and his wife always make sure to set aside some alone time to keep their romance alive.

“Once you have children, every instinct and every moment of your time is consumed by that," he explains. "You’ve got nothing for each other. So, make sure you have date night even if it’s once in a blue moon, because most of the time you’re just too tired and you’d actually prefer to sleep."

And he always makes sure to tell the 41-year-old he's crazy about her: "There’s no shortage of how much I tell her I love her," he smiles.
