Fifty Shades Of Gray author E.L. James' husband Niall Leonard has been hired to write the screenplay for the sequel to the movie adaptation of her erotic novel.

Leonard, who has written scripts for British TV series such as Wild at Heart and Wire in the Blood, will be making his major studio film debut with Fifty Shades Darker. He takes over from Kelly Marcel, who was responsible for the big screen adaptation of James' bestseller, which was released in February (15).

Studio bosses have yet to name a replacement for director Sam Taylor Johnson, who announced last month (Mar15) she would not be returning to the franchise.

The film's stars, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, are slated to return, with James serving as an executive producer.
