Demi Lovato: 'I'm no longer insecure'

Pop star Demi Lovato has never felt more confident in her own skin.

The Cool for the Summer singer has shown off a lot more flesh in an array of sexy outfits while promoting her new album, Confident, over the last few months, and Demi insists the title is a true reflection of how she feels about herself after years of body issues.

"I've never felt as confident in my skin as I do today," she told Allure. "A year ago, on tour, almost every inch of my body was covered by clothing, and it was because I was hiding behind so many layers. Once I started feeling better about myself, I felt better about showing more skin."

The 23-year-old has battled a number of personal issues over the years, and underwent intensive rehab care as she attempted to deal with self-harming, an eating disorder and drug and alcohol abuse, but now she insists she is healthy and happy in every way possible.

"I have insecurities about my arms, so to wear a tank top on stage is extremely liberating for me, and uncomfortable sometimes," she continued. "It's also a statement, like, 'Hey, watch out. You're no longer getting the insecure Demi that you've been getting for the past couple of years. I mean business now'."

Her new mindset was one of the factors that led to her decision to pose nude for Vanity Fair last year (15) - and then insist on no digital retouching of the images.

"The most challenging part of that photoshoot for me was going in the buff with no Photoshop," she explained to Access Hollywood. "There were times where I was looking at the pictures with the photographer and he would say, 'Oh, we could fix that', and I was like, 'No, we can't. We cannot use Photoshop in this shoot’. Of course it's awkward, but when I start to think about the message, when I would start to think about how many people this would inspire, I got more comfortable doing it."
