Chrissy Teigen turns Twitter account private to combat negativity
Chrissy Teigen has made her Twitter account private because she "cannot handle it anymore".
The model is well-known for her presence on social media and regularly uses her Twitter page to vent her feelings, hit back at haters and draw attention to social and political issues.
However, it seems the micro-blogging site has become too much for
her because on Tuesday night (04Oct16) she switched her account to
private, meaning only followers approved by her can read her tweets
and see her full profile.
When the 30-year-old, who is married to singer John Legend, was
asked about changing her privacy settings by a user, she replied
that she's "not strong enough anymore" to have a public page.
She explained in a second message, "It's not haters or trolls or
generally mean people... I just feel like I am absorbing bad s**t
24/7. My body and mind cannot handle it anymore."
Chrissy's Instagram is still public, but in August (16) she
revealed she had banned comments which included the words "Trump",
"c**t", "s**t" and "w**re", among others.
She explained to Glamour.com last month (Sep16) she made the
decision because she was aware the comments section of her account
was becoming "a battleground for people to bully each other" and
she didn't want it to be "the cesspool for negativity".
When asked how she deals with abuse on social media, she said she
can take it because she dishes it out herself - but some remarks
hurt her more than others.
"One day something will upset me more than it would have the day
before," she said. "Some days I regret wording things the way I did
in the heat of the moment. I think anyone who follows me knows how
I react. It's not always poetic and perfect but neither am I."
