Chris Pine: 'Being lauded for my looks is bizarre'

Actor Chris Pine will never be uncomfortable with his heartthrob status.

The 35-year-old has firmly established himself in Hollywood thanks to movies including Star Trek, Into The Woods, and Horrible Bosses 2, and his striking looks and baby blue eyes have won him a legion of female admirers.

But, despite all the success and adoration which has come his way, Chris still struggles to accept compliments for his appearance, even though he considered himself "unattractive" during his high school years.

"To be in a position where you're lauded for things that you don't own - and don't think of yourself as - it's so bizarre," he explained to Elle.com. "It feels great to not be the acne-ridden outsider that I felt like when I was in high school. It's a lot more fun being alive now than it was then, I'll say that much."

As well as adjusting to all the female attention he receives now he's hit the big time, it has taken Chris a while to accept his career is unlikely to go disastrously wrong.

When asked why he had continued to live in the same one bedroom apartment after 'making it' in Hollywood, Chris explained how insecurity is always lurking in the back of an actor's mind, even when things are going well.

"I loved my apartment," he said. "It was an old, beautiful, 1920s Spanish-style-original hardwood floors and tile, stuff that aesthetically turned me on. I had a coffee shop across the street. I had a great Italian restaurant next door. I was working a bunch. There's not too much time to think about anything else. But in the back of any actor's mind there's this gnawing insecurity - it's not going to last; it's not going to work out - and I definitely experienced that."
