Chris Colfer to pen episode of Glee

Glee star Chris Colfer is expanding his role on the hit TV series by writing an upcoming episode.

The actor/author was approached by show producers and creator Ryan Murphy and asked to write for the show, and he didn't hesitate to take on the challenge, sources tell TVLine.com.

The 23 year old rose to stardom as gay character Kurt Hummel on Glee, but over the past few years, he has ventured into the world of literature - the first instalment of his book series, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, debuted at number one on the New York Times Bestsellers list in 2012 - the same year the talented star wrote and produced indie film Struck By Lightning.

Colfer's Glee episode is slated to air later this spring (14).
