Calvin Harris wrote the lyrics on rumored 'Taylor Swift break-up song'
Singer John Newman admits Calvin Harris wrote their new track, but won't say if it's about Taylor Swift.
The British singer teamed up with the superstar DJ on new track Ole, which has left people wondering if it’s a thinly veiled dig at Calvin’s ex Taylor.
With lyrics like “My heart speaks/ I ain’t seen you or been with
you for weeks/ But I see online that you’ve begun to be/ A good
girl and take trips with your boyfriend/ Being attentive, continue
to pretend,” music fans have noticed similarities with the words
and Taylor’s new romance with actor Tom Hiddleston, which begun
soon after the end of her relationship with Calvin.
“I just went in and sang the song, the lyrics that he wrote I sang
them,” he said when BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw pushed him on
any Taylor connection. “I just had to relate to it in my own
way.”
The song starts with the words “low key” which people have pointed
out is similar to Tom’s Thor character, Loki.
The Evening Standard reports that John also said: “Life’s life.
People make good decisions and bad decisions, and they’ll do what
they want, and sometimes it’s on camera.
“In all honesty, Calvin has done 100 per cent of the writing on
this. I went into the studio, he said, ‘Sing this’, and I sang the
song. He told me how to sing it. It’s a weird one because, I’ve got
no comment on the thing (Taylor and Tom). I honestly can’t — it
wouldn’t be fair.”
Country-turned-pop singer is known for penning tracks about her ex
boyfriend, with her break-ups from stars including Harry Styles and
John Mayer making it into her music.
Not everyone is convinced that Calvin’s latest track is aimed at
the Shake It Off singer though.
"People are just making assumptions to get attention for a song," a
source told Us Weekly. "There’s no way it could be about Tom. It
has nothing to do with Tom and Taylor."
