Beyonce set to direct and star in new documentary

Beyonce is stepping behind the camera to direct and star in a new documentary about her life.

The notoriously-private Single Ladies hitmaker will put together personal footage of her life as an artist, wife to rapper Jay-Z, and mom to daughter Blue Ivy for the project, which will air on TV network HBO on 16 February (13), six days after the 2013 Grammy Awards.

Executive Michael Lombardo says, "Everybody knows Beyonce's music, but few know Beyonce the person. Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman."

And the pop star insists she is excited about giving her fans an intimate behind-the-scenes look at her private world.

A statement from Beyonce reads, "HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity. Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home."
