Angelina Jolie to teach course at Georgetown University
Angelina Jolie is reportedly set to teach students a course about women, peace and security at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
The Salt star teamed up with former British Foreign Secretary William Hague to launch the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) in 2012 in a bid to crack down on sexual attacks in war zones, and they staged the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in 2014.
In May (16), she became a visiting professor on a new one-year
master's course, Women, Peace and Security, at the London School of
Economics (LSE), and now she will reportedly take on the same guest
spot at Georgetown University, according to Us Weekly magazine.
"I was pleased to meet with Angelina Jolie during my recent trip to
London on ways we at Georgetown University can continue the
collaboration between our sister programs on both sides of the
Atlantic," Melanne Verveer, the executive director of the
Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, said in May.
"We look forward to welcoming Angelina and former foreign secretary
Hague to Georgetown in the future."
Angelina, a special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency, is
passionate about issues linked to women's rights and refugees, and
she has been active in helping to raise awareness about both areas
of international society.
"It is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance
women's rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately
affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict," a statement
from her reads. "I am looking forward to teaching and learning from
the students, as well as to sharing my own experiences of working
alongside governments and the United Nations."
The 41-year-old has yet to comment on the new gig and it is unclear
when the course will begin.
