Amy Poehler receives Hasty Pudding homecoming
Comedienne Amy Poehler received a one-of-a-kind homecoming in Massachusetts on Thursday (29Jan15), when she was honored as the 2015 Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year.
The Parks and Recreation star was paraded around the Harvard University campus in Cambridge in a convertible alongside Hasty Pudding Theatricals members dressed in drag, with hundreds of fans lining the streets chanting her name.
Poehler, who is from Boston suburb Burlington, brought along a
special guest for her big day, as she was escorted along the parade
route by her father, Bill.
The actress was later given a roast by the members of the theater
troupe, who also celebrated her with songs and dance.
Poehler, who donned a hat from her alma mater Boston College during
the event, joked to the crowd that she never imagined this honor,
since she used to taunt the students who attended the Ivy League
school.
She told the crowd, "When I was growing up in Burlington, Harvard
University used to be a group of buildings we threw rocks at on our
way to a real job. And as I drove by and gave the middle finger to
this place, I never knew that you guys would be giving me all this
s**t."
Nevertheless, Poehler jokingly accepted the prestigious trophy,
which comes in the form of a golden pudding pot.
Next week (begs02Feb15), Poehler's Parks and Recreation co-star
Chris Pratt will get his turn to be feted as the male recipient of
the 2015 Hasty Pudding Award.
Speaking of her beloved friend, Poehler tells People magazine, "If
only we could be here together. We could arm wrestle and solve the
world's problems."
This wasn't the first time the Golden Globe winner has been
recognized by Harvard - she gave a Class Day speech during
commencement week in 2011.
