Adele gives up booze over voice fears
British singer Adele has given up alcohol once more over fears it could harm her voice.
The Hello singer has attempted to give up the booze on a number of occasions over the years to curb her drunken antics, but this time she has been told to go teetotal to preserve her vocal cords.
Adele is set to embark on a huge tour in Europe and North America
next year (16), and she is doing what she can to make sure she does
not lose her voice, a problem which blighted her previous tours and
ended with throat surgery in 2011.
"I am not allowed to drink as it dehydrates my vocal chords," she
tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper. "Alcohol blocks your ears
when you get drunk and you get lairy, which makes you talk louder.
I might raise my voice and my voice might go again."
Adele first declared she had stopped drinking in 2009, and she quit
once again in 2011 because she hated not being able to remember her
drunken behavior.
"I don't drink any more. I kept waking up in the morning and my
heart would sink thinking about what I did the night before," she
told U.K. TV host Alan Carr at the time. "That feeling used to tear
me apart every morning."
She has also given up cigarettes after years of smoking because she
feared the habit would eventually kill her.
"If I'd carried on smoking I'd probably have died from a
smoking-related illness and I think that's really bad," she said.
"If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it
to myself and that wouldn't be something I'd be proud of."
Adele's U.K. and European leg of the 25 tour kicks off on 29
February (16) in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
