One type of video I have been seeing recently on YouTube revolves around the topic of “taste tests”.
The concept is as simple as it sounds! A taste test is when a YouTuber tastes various food items and gives the entire scoop on whether a scrumptious looking item is as delectable as it appears!
For a rather simple concept that you and I could technically do, some YouTubers and channels are gaining mass fame for simply specializing in taste tests or adding them as a component to their channel!
So here are some of the best channels I have found which feature this concept!
1. TheReportOfTheWeek
TheReportOfTheWeek is a YouTube channel primarily focused on taste-testing numerous items. The host, also called Reviewbrah, has been in this “business” ever since he was a young lad -- aka 2011.
Today, the channel has a robust 1.79 million subscribers and a huge following. The Report is always up-to-date with the latest releases from restaurant franchise chains. A staple of Reviewbrah is the tendency to appear very formal and professional in his videos, despite the fact that he's casually trying different food from fast food chains.
You can always expect a suit, well-combed hair, and a thorough review on the newest items from Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc. And don’t worry, if you learn to love this channel, there is PLENTY of diverse content to binge, which features non-taste test videos too. The Report has 1,058 videos total!
2. Good Mythical Morning
With a staggering 16.2 million subscribers and 2,413 videos as of this writing, Good Mythical Morning is run by two men named Rhett and Link who are experts in taste-testing.
This channel is a bit different from Reviewbrah, though. How, you may ask? Well, they happen to feature multiple items as part of a taste test in some videos.
In addition, there are comparisons, blind taste tests where the same items from different chains are eaten, guest stars, international foods, an overall wide variety of featured items, and tons of entertainment on this diverse channel!
Did I mention the hosts sometimes veer from food videos and taste test other things like mouthwash?!
3. BuzzFeedVideo
Nearly 20 million subscribers strong, this highly popular, multi-topic channel has been a part of the taste test game for some time now. The only difference between this channel and the previous two is that BuzzFeed covers TONS of other topics too.
As for the taste-testing, the person doing the tasting is often a random contestant and the grub has varied from traditional fast food like Burger King to “cuisine” such as exotic fruit, street fare, mozzarella sticks, and Trader Joe’s goods. The options are endless!
4. Young Hollywood
Oh you didn't know that we have our own taste test-style series too? Well, now ya do!
"Taste That Ish" is a slight variation from the normal taste-testing format, but it's unique in that it's the celebs doing the tasting!
We kicked off the series at last year's SXSW with none other than The Try Guys, who sampled some of Austin's finest cuisines, before moving it back to the YH Studio with stars like Nolan Gould, Olivia Holt, and Sabrina Carpenter sampling two of the same item from different brands and trying to guess which is the more expensive one. All in the name of good, delicious fun!
Which channel would you look to for a recommendation?
