1. From the end of consoles to the dawn of streaming services, the way we play video games is changing forever.

For as long as we can remember, the gaming industry has been a part of a seemingly boundless cycle. Every 3-5 years, a new console is released, bringing with it its own new and exclusive games. If you want to play, you have to buy the new console. Simple as that. But it’s 2019, and things are rarely simple nowadays.

 

Producers have been designing consoles that are starting to work more and more like different models of smartphones. They all have their differences, but they work essentially the same. What if you didn’t have to buy the new console every time you wanted to try the latest games? Well, now you don't have to. More and more producers are starting to incorporate a new sales model, similar to some of your favorite TV streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon. Video game companies have been building their own streaming services for gamers.

 

A few days before the gaming expo began, Google announced more details about their own console-replacing streaming platform, which is being launched in the Fall. A monthly subscription service to their new cloud gaming service, Stadia, will allow players to use a multitude of games that players will be able access on multiple different consoles -- even on your smartphone!
