SO much Star Wars lately, but I ain’t complaining, and I hope you aren’t either! Movies aren’t the only medium that Star Wars is covering right now. In fact, they’re reviving one of my favorite video games of all time with a much-needed sequel. The name of the game is Star Wars: Battlefront, and if you’re unfamiliar with this game, then, let me assure you that (1) it’s easily the best Star Wars-themed game series of all time. (My opinion, Knights of the Old Republic fans, #sorrynotsorry.) and (2) you’re in for a treat.
Star Wars: Battlefront is precisely what it sounds like -- a war game. The first installment only covered foot battles of famous wars from both the original and prequel trilogies, with unplayable hero characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vadar that help fight for a limited time. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 decided to up the ante by including mini-games, space battles, fighting with Snow Speeder, AT-ATs, and other ground battle vehicles, playable access to a plethora of hero characters to actually play with, and just being all-around awesome. Now, things may get confusing, as the Star Wars: Battlefront game will be called Star Wars: Battlefront, but you can tell the difference because it’s for Xbox One and PS4. Take a look at the trailer and see just how different it will be:
Looks great, but just like the movie, they’re making us wait until around next Christmas! What gives, Star Wars?! I don’t want to wait any longer, but, alas, we all must. Since the trailer only shows the original series, it’s safe to say that the game will mainly deal with that, but Star Wars video games have been known in the past to contain Easter Eggs for future things, like the inclusion of the Naboo Starfighter in Rogue Squadron before Phantom Menace was released. Who knows for sure, but with the Internet, you can bet that if anything from The Force Awakens is hidden in Battlefront, somebody will find it before you. (Unless you’re one of those people that does that for me. Thank you. I’m way too lazy and busy to do that myself, which also doesn’t make sense.)
And by the way, you’ll be happy to know I lied… sort of. You can look out for Star Wars: Battlefront much earlier than Christmas when it hits shelves and digital stores on November 17, 2015. Okay, I lied there too, since Thanksgiving is basically pre-Christmas without presents, but if the Force was really with you, then you would’ve seen that coming.
