Will 2018 be The Year of Janelle? We sure hope so!
Janelle’s two new songs, “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane”, are completely different and yet quintessentially Janelle.
“Make Me Feel” is a tribute to her longtime mentor, Prince, and we can definitely hear the his influence in those sick guitar riffs and unbashed sexiness. The video is chock full of '80s vibes and even features Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok) as a co-star. It consists of catchy beats, vibrant outfits, dance routines, and even a burgeoning love story between the fierce two leading ladies. This is definitely a sexier side to Janelle we haven't really seen before, and we are so here for it!
Then there's “Django Jane”, the next anthem for Black Girl Magic! Janelle brings back her signature suits to this music video along with her rapping skills to celebrate Black women and their culture today. It also spreads the message of female empowerment and struggles of identity.
From these two songs, we can tell the album will be a personal revelation for Janelle. Both songs bring her feminine and masculine sides to the table and we can’t wait to find out more about the album, which Janelle considers to be her personal statement.
A narrative film is set to be released related to the album, but the date will be revealed soon.
Make sure to get Dirty Computer when it drops on April 27!
