(HBO Max)
Over the past couple months, so many new shows have come out on all the major streaming platforms. That means we’ve been backed up on things to binge-watch. HBO Max’s new show, "Genera+ion", did not disappoint. I know it seems like every show you watch cannot get better than the next, but somehow they do. Well, this show is no exception.
I’ll admit, I was skeptical of this show. I’d heard it was good, but it wasn’t at the top of my ever-growing list of shows to watch. I’m so happy I gave it a chance because it truly is a hidden gem. It’s one of the best shows I’ve watched in a while and I think you’ll love it too. Here’s a few reasons why we love it:
1. The Characters
To be honest, when I first started this show, I thought it was just okay, but the more and more I watched, the more attached I grew to each and every character. At the end, you’ll love them and want so much more, trust me.
2. The Writing
This show is super unique in that they play a scene from one perspective and then the exact same scene from another character’s perspective. I’m no film scholar, but I think it’s genius. They make you think you know what just happened and then they completely change your mind — it’s amazing!
3. The Realness
I don’t know about you, but I’m not typically the biggest fan of super unrealistic movies and TV. If that is you too, then this is the show for you. While it’s not exactly based on a true story, it honestly could be. Every character and everything they go through feels so real and raw. IMO, this show is going to redefine a lot of what we’re used to seeing on screen. It’s just so good!
4. The "Euphoria" Vibes
While this show isn’t exactly like "Euphoria", it has a very similar vibe to it. Seeing as both shows were made by HBO, it makes sense. When I say it has a similar vibe, I mean it’s dark, it’s edgy, it’s about a group of Gen-Z kids trying to figure out themselves and their sexualities, and there’s lot of drama. If you’re a "Euphoria" fan, I could not recommend this show more. Oh, and just like "Euphoria", this show has a killer soundtrack too.
5. The Creators
Believe it or not, this show was created by a 19-year-old! Zelda Barnz, along with her father, Daniel Barnz — with the help of Lena Dunham — is the brainchild of the project. The best part is that the inspiration from the show came from Zelda’s real life. She came out to both of her fathers a couple years ago after her brother came out.
All 8 episodes are available to stream right now on HBO Max, so go binge them ASAP!
