Fall Fashion Inspo From The Gilmore Girls!

Written by Cole Hediger. Published: October 04 2024

The days are getting shorter. The weather’s getting cooler. The leaves are beginning to change color. This can all mean only one thing… “Gilmore Girls” season is upon us!

The iconic series will soon be playing on all screens but the quick wit and funny dialogue won’t be the only thing to catch our attention. The fashion of the mom-and-daughter duo of Lorelai and Rory will have most of us in awe and dreaming of 2000s trends. It’s true! The women of “Gilmore Girls” wear some of the most stylish looks throughout the entirety of the 7-season series. Whether the outfits are impossibly true to the characters or just plain cute, fashion is a clear statement in the Gilmore household.

So, without further ado, here are some of the outfits and looks that just keep us obsessed with the voguish mom and daughter!

1. Season 1, Episode 7

I swear I see this outfit in my dreams. The way Lorelei is able to style clothes that make them both fashionable and professional is a skill I yearn to have. The inn manager is no stranger to a fun leather jacket, but the mix of browns and fabrics in the turtleneck and sweater balance neutrals and elevates them through texture. Accessorized with a simple bag, a sense of cohesion is drawn upon through her consistent use of leather.

2. Season 4, Episode 6

This Fall-inspired outfit from Rory is so incredibly cute. The blue mock-neck textured sweater with the plaid mini-skirt screams Fall. The way she styles it with the chocolate brown stockings and black messenger bag compliments the colors perfectly while adding a layer of dark academia to the look.

3. Season 1, Episode 1

From the pilot, the Gilmores made their sense of style known. Rory sports this red high-neck top with a black mini-skirt with black stockings. The black boots and peak of white tube socks are ever so trendy. The look, though simple, is an evergreen look that remains fashionable to this day, despite the series airing back in 2000.

4. Season 1, Episode 4

Lorelei takes a different spin on layering the series with this look, seen in the 4th episode. For much of the series, the Gilmore ladies wear layered looks with sweaters and jackets; however, in this look, Lorelei pairs a sheer top with a tank top. The gray and red pattern offers a unique color pairing, which she amplifies through her undershirt and pencil skirt.

5. Season 3, Episode 1

The beaded necklace makes a return in a more casual look from Rory in Season 3. The very early-2000s dress showcases a pink and white pattern over a brown fabric. The subtle clip in her hair and added accessory of her bracelet creates a wonderfully youthful look.

6. Season 3, Episode 8

Though we know this isn’t the outfit Rory would’ve worn at her big interview with Yale, the mother-daughter duo once again adorn some of the most fashionable looks. Not only does Lorelei wear her signature leather jacket, but she once again proves the point of a great pair of jeans. Tying it all together with heels and a tee, Lorelei brings the most simple pieces in her closet into a sophisticated look. Meanwhile, Rory wears another knit, this time a zip-up gray sweater. Flexing her ability to layer, Rory wears this zip-up over a polo and tee. Like her mother, Rory dons a pair of jeans and brings the look together with a chunky headband.

7. Season 1, Episode 1

How could we not mention this absolutely amazing chunky sweater? Ever since the chunky knit hit the screen, Rory’s sweater choice has popped up everywhere on Instagram to TikTok. I’m sure that everyone who has watched the series has developed a slight obsession with this sweater in particular. The carefully detailed knitting design is well crafted and shows great attention to detail. Rory wears the top with a pair of dark wash jeans and an incredibly modern leather backpack.

8. Season 1, Episode 9

Another iconic look from the series! The handcrafted dress from Lorelei herself has to be one of the best prom looks in television history. The silky off-the-shoulder bodice mixed with the tulle skirt is both playful and cute. Rory rocks the tube socks with her black combat boots once again, adding a little bit of edge to her look. The dress is gorgeously complimented by the beaded necklace and baby’s breath flowers in her hair.

9. Season 3, Episode 6

Absolutely obsessed with these two looks from Season 3. The matching denim and color palettes makes these two looks top tier. Lorelei’s more sophisticated layering brings back the leather jacket from Season 1. She plays with fabrics, as Lorelei so often does in her outfits, and once again balances her neutral colors. The black jacket, white top, and rich brown belt draw this great set of staple pieces into a stylish outfit. Rory, on the other hand, sports a more youthful styling. She plays with more color and a cutoff look to her denim. The outfit not only compliments her mother’s but it reads more into her character.

10. Season 3, Episode 11

It’s not often we see Lorelei without some black in her look, so when she’s seen in an outfit made of exclusively bright colors, we tend to notice. This look in particular has elements we more commonly find in Rory’s outfits -- with the scalloped color and pink and orange pattern. With a top so unique, Lorelei tones done the rest of the outfit with a simple pair of brown jeans.
