Ugh as IF we wouldn’t be excited about a continued Clueless storyline. Our favorite Beverly Hills squad is coming back in a new, fresh way. The beloved '90s movie Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone as Cher and Stacey Dash as Dionne, is being remade for the small screen with a dark twist. According to Deadline, the reboot is being described as “Mean Girls meets 'Riverdale' meets a Lizzo music video.” Wow!
Based on the 1995 fan favorite movie, the television series is in the works at CBS TV Studios and is currently in the early stages of development. Confirmed writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey are working on the script as we speak. This isn’t the first time the film has been brought to the small screen, however. "Clueless" the sitcom ran for 3 seasons on ABC from 1996-1999 and starred Rachel Blanchard as Cher, plus Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, and Elisa Donovan all reprising their roles from the film.
This new reboot will greatly differ from its two predecessors by focusing not on Cher but on her best friend, Dionne. Dionne is forced to navigate life as the new most popular girl in school after Cher mysteriously goes missing. Dionne investigates what happened to her bestie while also trying her best to be a normal teenager. The series will be set in present day and the thrills of technology and social media are sure to add interesting layers to the storyline.
As of now, no original stars have been confirmed to reprise their roles in the new series, but we would love nothing more than to see Alicia Silverstone don her iconic yellow plaid outfit once again. According to reports, the project is being eyed by multiple outlets, including The CW, which is home to other hit teen dramas such as "Riverdale" and "All American" and would go perfectly with their lineup.
Wherever the show ends up, fans of "Riverdale", Mean Girls, and Lizzo will apparently not want to miss it!
