Black Panther is the newest Marvel film to hit the theaters this year, and everyone is raving about it -- for very good reason! The film is set in the make-believe African nation Wakanda, where T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) returns home to take his father's place as King as he becomes, you guessed it, the Black Panther. So many twists and turns happen throughout the movie, including villains coming into the mix, but we won't reveal any of that; you’ll just have to go see for yourself!
This movie focuses strictly on African culture and African-Americans coming together. It focuses on the history of colonization, and what it means to fully represent that culture as a whole.
The film also showcases many strong female characters who fight for their land and their culture, which was quite inspirational to watch! Women were truly the backbone to the nation of Wakanda.
Also, if you’re a fan of Kendrick Lamar, then you will love the music that plays throughout the film. Lamar produced the film's outstanding soundtrack, which features the song “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar and SZA, and we have been obsessed with the song AND the music video since it came out!
But back to the film -- it really has such beautiful moments. With the way it was written, and especially the visuals of certain scenes, it will leave you in awe. The moment when T’Challa reunites with his father is exceptional, and while the scene may leave you teary-eyed, definitely look out for the beautiful scenery that is surrounding T’Challa and his father.
Black Panther also features some great comedic moments. A little fun fact is that Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino, AKA Lando Calrissian) helped the director, Ryan Coogler, work some humor into the film. It even featured a reference to a viral Vine joke, “what are those?!”, during a scene between the T’Challa and his sister Shuri (Letitia Wright). If you miss Vine, then you’ll probably appreciate that meta moment.
Aside from the humor, the action that takes place will leave you on the edge of your seat. At most parts in the movie, you are not sure what will happen next, and many things may catch you off-guard.
You definitely will want to see Black Panther and all the action, tears, and laughs that it has to offer. Catch it in theatres everywhere now!
