If you tuned into the 2020 BET Awards, you were most likely blown away by the talented 2-time Grammy-winning R&B artist Lonr.’s performance with the rising starlet herself, H.E.R. The moniker “Lonr.”, pronounced “loner”, stands for “Land of Nothing Real”.
The New York-based producer explains the meaning behind the name: “I always zone out and go into my own little world. That’s the Land of Nothing Real. If you don’t like where you are, you can escape into another realm. This project is really about love, longing, and desire. Those topics are always on people’s minds. I’m examining them with melodic and dreamy songs.”
Fans of TikTok might recognize one of Lonr.’s songs, “A.M.”, used in thousands of videos on the platform and in turn placing the artist on everyone’s radar. “A.M.” is Lonr.’s most-streamed song on Spotify with over 21 million views as of this writing and his most popular to date due to the A.M. challenge that went viral on the app.
With the recent emotional BET Awards performance of “Make the Most” with H.E.R., we at Young Hollywood are obsessed! Lonr. and H.E.R. have worked together since 2017 when the two songwriters collaborated together to release fresh, much-needed new music — two industry legends in the making, and we love to see it! Their newest collab, “Make the Most”, has amassed 3 million views and counting.
In April 2020, the singer-songwriter released his spelled-out self-titled debut EP Land of Nothing Real with Epic Records, and the 7-track EP was a success featuring collaborations with H.E.R. and 24kGoldn. The EP starts out with “Time”, an ambient and chill song to kick back and relax to. “Safe Zone” is the second track and it’s exactly how we feel about its namesake — safe. Lonr.’s vocals are smooth and unique, leading us into our feelings. Piano melody “Jump” reveals the songwriting side to Lonr., while “Unruly” and “LIT” show off the innovative producer side to the artist, showcasing just how talented he is. What makes Lonr. stand out from the rest of the new R&B talent is his incredible lyricism.
Lonr. captures the feeling of being lonely that we all feel at one point and said, “I want listeners to feel like this is something new. Most of all, I hope they resonate with me and feel like they’re being heard and not so alone in this world.”
2020 has been an exciting year for the rising star, from being nominated for Album of the Year at the 2020 Grammys and winning Best R&B Album, Young Hollywood is excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for Lonr.!
